The new corporate woman

I am intrigued at all the new “trending” reports that are coming out about everything from clothing to new internet apps.  I decided to write my own trending list based on the characteristics of the corporate women I’ve been fortunate enough to work with.  Here is my list of top 10 trends.  The new corporate woman:

  1. Wants their piece of the pie at work and at home.  No longer are we bamboozled into thinking we have to choose one over the other;
  2. Recognizes that in order to survive in the new world of work, they must think globally;
  3. Appreciates the value of high quality social relationships;
  4. Is social media savvy (see #2);
  5. Will invest in products & services that save them time and money – forget anything else, it’s a waste of time which = money;
  6. Excels in knowing what they’re best at and spending the most time in that space vs. trying to make themselves into something they are not
  7. Is a possibility thinker…always;
  8. Sees the world not only from her own perspective, but through the eyes of others;
  9. Reads to enrich their lives, and every now and then just to escape;
  10. Sets healthy boundaries to blend both work and life – it’s all about R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Gotta’ have it

So what do you think?  Are you a “new-age” corporate woman?

What It’s Like to Live In My World

Right now, I’m recognizing that there are only a few days left until Christmas.  In a house with two young children, this is a huge deal.  We’ve perpetuated the idea of Santa coming to our house & while it’s loads of fun for them, it’s a whole lot of work for us parents.

Now in addition to the kids, I have family coming from Florida to visit.  I’m trying to figure out when exactly I’ll be able to clean the house (would’ve been nice to hire that cleaning company a couple of weeks ago; I just didn’t get around to it).  Somehow, we’ll have to turn that work-out room back into a bedroom within the next couple of days.  Hmmm…

Oh yes, and dinner is at my house again – which means that I’ll have my fam and the in-laws all here on Friday.  Whoo hoo.

Now did I mention that I’m working all week except for Christmas Eve & Christmas Day? Several projects going on there that I don’t want to slip on.

All of these while I’m also juggling two coaching client sessions this week, and getting ready to launch MBA Woman in 2010.  This in itself is a whole other blog.

I want to tell you that it’s super hectic in my life right now.  You probably have a similar story.  That’s why I’m sharing this with you.  You see, the difference between me and many other people is that as busy as it is, I LOVE my life. I know that my purpose and my vision are being fulfilled. And because I’ve taken the time to invest in the journey, I am living a joy-rich life.

Sure there are times when I could pull my hair out (or somebody else’s), but overall, the good outweighs the challenging.

My vision for you is to set corporate women free from mental bondage so they too can enjoy a life and work that satisfies them.  It may not look like mine at all, but it will be what you intentionally create.  Instead of that phrase “life happens to you”, I want you to be able to say, “I’m intentionally living”.  That’s what freedom really means to me.

Merry Christmas & have a fantastic New Year!

Warm regards,

A New Dawn, A New Day

MBA WomenWelcome to the Life of an MBA Woman.  This site is an extension of my work at my main website for Design Your Work – a premier career coaching resource for busy professional women in mid-career identity crisis.

I have really been on a road to discovery the last 5 years +, part of which I spent in complete denial.  Yes, denial that anything was wrong with “my way”.  I suppose my thought was that if everyone else would change, my life would be just fine.  Ever thought that?

Well, a little boring info about me.  I’m an HR professional, an MBA, and a certified career coach.  I’m also a mom, a wife, a pet owner, a daughter and a sister.  I am actually trying to figure out what is most important to tell you because I just had a major discovery after being a coach for two years – I had no clear target market that I wanted to associate with and so my business grew very slowly.

You might be asking right now, “isn’t career a niche?” but all the gurus in the mega-coaching field are saying absolutely not. As a matter of fact, I know they’re right now because if it were I’d be a trillionaire & I’d be queen of everything work-related. LOL.  There are numbers upon numbers of career coaches.  What makes me stand out is that I especially enjoy working with women like myself – intelligent, business-oriented, and focused but often on the wrong priorities.

You see, we’re the type of women who can’t sit at home.  We crave interacting with other professional women, reading great books, soaking up new information – but we want to do all of that on our own terms.  We may have climbed the corporate ladder, or made a conscious choice to focus on our family, but we thrive on making a solid impact.

Yes, if this is you, you are in the right place.  So hang around, catch a video, check out my “rooms” and maybe you can spend some time with me & the “girls” in my coaching group.  Our next one starts soon so keep watching.

Change your thinking, change your work.
